The Health Care Bureau addresses allegations of unfair and deceptive health care related practices and promotes consumer access to high quality, affordable health care services by receiving and reviewing complaints relating to health insurance and health care. When necessary and appropriate, the Bureau investigates and litigates consumer protection cases involving health organizations, including providers, insurers, and pharmaceutical benefits managers. Common complaints include:
- Medicare Advantage/Medicare Part D marketing and coverage problems
- Health insurance (private, Medicare, Medicaid) coverage disputes and appeals
- Problems with medical goods, services, or devices
- Health Discount Card issues
- Life insurance matters
- Billing disputes such as fraudulent billing schemes and gross overcharging
- False or misleading advertising relating to health care issues
The Health Care Bureau investigates, advocates, and takes legal action on behalf of the State and Arkansas consumers as a group against health care organizations that are involved in deceptive practices. The Bureau is prohibited by law from acting as a personal attorney on behalf of any consumer.
